Who books it
Your options for getting rid of bulky items in Malta
Local councils run bulky refuse collections, usually booked in advance, and WasteServ civic amenity sites accept many household items if you can take them yourself. When you buy a new appliance, the shop may take the old one back. These options are worth checking first if you have time and transport.
A junk removal service is the easier option when items are heavy, need to come down several floors, need dismantling, or when you need it done on a particular day.
What happens to your items
Furniture and appliances in good condition are passed on for reuse where possible. Metals, wood and electrical items are separated for recycling, and the rest goes through licensed waste facilities. Ask for details of how your items are handled when you get your quote.
Before we collect
A few things that make collection quick and the price accurate:
- Send a photo of each item, or of the pile
- Tell us the floor, and whether there is a lift
- Mention narrow stairs, spiral staircases or tight doorways
- Let us know about parking near the entrance
- Declare anything hazardous: paint, chemicals, gas cylinders or asbestos
- Empty drawers and wardrobes of anything you want to keep

Do you take single items?
Yes. One sofa, one mattress or one appliance is fine. Single items are often combined with other collections nearby.
Can you take a fridge or washing machine?
Yes. Appliances are taken to be recycled as electrical waste. Let us know if a fridge still needs to be disconnected or a washing machine drained.
Can I take bulky items to the council or WasteServ myself?
Yes, and it is worth checking. Your local council can tell you about its bulky refuse collection, and WasteServ civic amenity sites accept many household items. A removal service is useful when you cannot lift, carry or transport the items yourself.
What can you not take?
Hazardous waste such as asbestos, chemicals, solvents and gas cylinders needs special handling. Declare them when you ask for a quote so the right arrangements can be made.
